Works pretty well, except that I have to slam my seat back up to get it to latch
BuiltRight Industries
Hey David, Thank you for taking the time to leave a thoughtful review. A little grease or penetrating oil in the middle of the latch mechanism will help to expedite the break in of the OEM latch mechanism. If you are still having issues with latch engagement, check out the trouble shooting guide we have on our Youtube channel. Just search for "BuiltRight Industries" and then within our channel search for "Ford F-Series Rear Seat Release Troubleshooting ". -Matt Homes Customer Service Manager BuiltRight Industries
Product works exactly as described on my 2020 F-150
It does work.... but......
The "latch" as they call it is actually a bracket and a lanyard that when installed along with the stock latch allows you to release the stock latch easier than the way ford designed it. I was able to unlatch the stock bracket without the use of tools. I was also able to install the bracket without any directional video in about 5 minutes. So yes the product does function. Now, if your like me and have a higher trim package with an amp and subwoofer this isn't really going to gain you any more storage space behind the seat beyond what you can already access from flipping the lower seat up and reaching behind the seat back. In fact, I already had a first aid kit and a soft case with straps in it in the very same space. I can't say it isn't a good product, it Is and it does work. I just feel like it "fixed" a problem that wasn't really there to begin with. I guess if you didn't have a sub and an amp you could store a long gun back there and I could see the value in that. Now $35.00 for a thin steel bracket and a cheap lanyard with a plastic eyelet is I little crazy, seems like a $15.00 product to me. I do regret purchasing it given my trim package. While they can't control which truck I buy they could offer a disclaimer explaining the comparability with higher trim package trucks.
BuiltRight Industries
Hey Glenn, We appreciate the honest feedback. Your trim level and OEM options will dictate the amount of usable space you have behind your seat. Some folks are just looking for a spot for a med kit or to stash a pistol in a padded case, room enough for that with the stock amp and sub but not much more. Under the item description tab, we do suggest that you follow the installation guide to see how much room you have behind your seat before purchasing. If you don't feel you have found utility in the kit, we'll happily take it back and get you a refund issued for the product. Just let us know and we can get an RMA started and a return shipping label emailed over. -Matt Homes Customer Service Manager. BuiltRightInd.com
Love the added storage space
I have no idea why Ford left this out of the options on this truck. The small side of the seat back releases to give access to the jack, but the drivers side of the split bench has the hardware but no way to release the latch and give access to all that space behind the seat. Well done Builtright! The kit was easy to install but it's worth the time to watch the video. After watching the video it took me 5 minutes to install the release kit and I'm very pleased with the quality and the instructions. I have room for toolboxes, tow straps, snowbrush and perhaps a shotgun on hunting days.
Simple and effective
This was a breeze to install. The whole process took less than 5 minutes from start to finish. The instructions were clear and simple, not that you even needed them as it was self explanatory how this worked. Loved the no frills design, just simple and effective.
Does what it says!
This simple upgrade gives easy access to the back of the seats and my new concealed firearms storage area. Makes for easier cleaning after a desert run too. Crazy this didn’t come from the factory.
Ford F-150 Back Seat
I've had the latch release for a couple of weeks or month even and finally installed it today. It's easy...watch the video...doesn't make any sense if you just open the box and look at it but really is a piece of cake. Thanks for giving me a long gun hiding spot behind the seat. Ford should have just made this factory.
Rear seat latch
Real easy install. Quality product.
F350 seat latch
